Run, Boy, Run? - Devlog #1

Hey everyone, Jesse from Lyndon Street Gaming here and this is just a devlog about the game I submitted for Jammin 2020, what I did right, what I did wrong and what are my plans for the future moving forward towards this game.

Firstly, I would like to thanks all the constructive feedback I received on the submission "Run, Boy, Run!" for Jammin 2020 as it's actually provided some fine ideas into greatly improving the game at it's current form as basically just nothing but a playable demo that is obviously rushed from the start (lol) however I am taking some consideration made by the judging panel as well as to add some thoughts on it.

One of the biggest issues that some face is the lack of background music to which it's actually top the list of "urgent items that need to be implemented" and I actually have some ideas into what music I should designed for it via Bosca Ceoil for the game so expect to get an update soon in regards to background music in the game. I also did have massive plans of creating three type of sounds thus reminiscing the era of the early MS-DOS computers and even computers before that where person would use different sound cards that generate different sounds. The three sounds that I have plan are:

  • The PC Speaker which would be by default. (Main theme only with sound effects only and no background music).
  • PC Jr./Tandy 3 Voice Speaker (Main theme and background theme with sound effects would be like the PC Speaker).
  • Sound Blaster/Ad lib (Main theme and background theme with sound effects would be like the PC Speaker).

The above later two sounds would be access by a terminal that I actually do plan on implementing into the game on a next devlog.

Another item is that the game is intended to have 6 levels divided into 3 stages with the 3rd stage being the boss level at each level followed by two final boss stages. Dialogue may be added for the two boss stages however a dialogue system  may be considered in the near future or a sequel considering how successful the game will become.

Lastly, I would like to announce that in accordance to the wishes and rules of the game jam's organizers I'm happy to announce that the upcoming game would be 100% free, DRM-free and fully open source licensed under the GPL Version 3 License plus the soon to be release  background music would be release under the Creative Commons License. Anyway that it for my devlog and hope you all would join me for the next one.
